Education at Illinois truly offers the best mix of academic challenge, hands-on teaching experiences, and a community that feels like family. Jess Robbins

Jess teaches fourth grade at Unity West Elementary School in Tolono, Illinois. It was during a professional development session that she first heard about trauma-informed education practices. From that moment, Jess knew it was something she was passionate about. She initially pursued a graduate certificate, but when the Trauma-Informed Practices & Pedagogy (TIPP) online Ed.M. became available from the College, she signed up immediately. The flexibility of the online degree option allowed her to keep teaching and practice her new skills in real time. This spring, Jess became the first-ever graduate of the TIPP program.

“

Learning about trauma-informed practices has helped me shift the way I think about education and learning. The ability to view my classroom through a trauma-informed lens benefits everyone, including me! In many ways, it has brought joy back to teaching.”
